Mardi Gras requires good shoes: Julia Reed, serving as the Krewe of Muses 2014 Honorary Muse, sits atop the giant shoe signature float Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, as the Krewe of Muses parade rolls down Napoleon Avenue. Reed, a native of Greenville, Miss., and New Orleans resident, is a contributing editor to Garden and Gun magazine; wrote a food and wine column for the Newsweek print edition; and is currently writing for the Wall Street Journal's weekend edition.(Photo by Chris Granger, NOLA.com / The Times-Picayune)

King cake isn't the only thing that should not be consumed until Twelfth Night. On Jan. 6, NOLA Brewing will release MUSES, its new seasonal brew for Mardi Gras.

The Belgian-style ale is mildly hopped. MUSES is also a "session" beer with only 4.4 percent alcohol, so you can keep drinking it until the last float rolls past.

MUSES will be available only on draft.

The MUSES beer will benefit the philanthropic work of the all-female Krewe of Muses. In 2015, the Krewe of Muses will focus its support on the non-profit Women with a Vision.

NOLA Brewing will host a release party for MUSES at the brewery's taproom on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
