Do you remember decorating a shoebox Mardi Gras float? As Melinda Morris points out, it's "a time-honored tradition for generations of New Orleans school children."

We want to see your Carnival-inspired shoebox creations. Whether you are decorating at home, in your classroom or the Algiers Regional Library upload your pictures to and they will be featured at the top of this post.

Algiers Regional Library hosts "DIY Mardi Gras Craft,'' led by Brittany Smith, on Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"All ages are welcome to make Mardi Gras bead-art out of recycled beads. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult," writes Morris. The class is already full, but you can sign up for the waiting list the front desk of the library, located at 3014 Holiday Drive or call 504-596-2641.
