Can you hear it? Can you feel it? Can you smell it? Mardi Gras 2017 is 200 days away.
Following the short Carnival season that was 2016, it could never be too early to begin planning for the next round of parades, costuming and revelry that's just around the corner -- even if that corner is still several months away.
The 2017 Carnival season will be 54 days long, compared to the 35-day-long season of 2016. That's 54 days to eat king cake, 54 days to stake out your spot for Zulu and Rex, and 54 days to wear gold hot pants without batting an eye.
Until Epiphany on Jan. 6, however, you can get excited for Mid-Summer Mardi Gras, which returns to Oak Street on Aug. 27. Details are on Facebook.
