Jim Caviezel, shown here performing in 'I Am David,' will reign as Bacchus in 2017 during Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

Jim Caviezel will reign as Bacchus in 2017, according to a press release from the Carnival krewe. The parade will roll in New Orleans on Feb. 26 at 5:15 p.m., just days before Mardi Gras.

Caviezel is best known for portraying Jesus Christ in the 2004 movie "The Passion of the Christ" and his role as John Reese in the CBS crime series "Person of Interest."

The theme of the 2017 parade will nod to the big sports anniversary for the year: "Bacchus Salutes the Saints 50th." The krewe, which now boasts more than 1,400 members, will have 33 "animated superfloats" and will return with its popular Bacchagator, Bacchasaurus and the Baccha-Whopper. Thanks to the parade's theme, 21 Saints-themed floats will roll along the Uptown route, including "Saints Fan," "Saints Mascots, "Da Zebras, "Dirty Bird Gumbo," "Rebirth" and "When the Saints Go Marching In."

Caviezel's other acting credits include roles in "The Thin Red Line," "Frequency," "I Am David" and as Edmond Dantes in "The Count of Monte Cristo."
