From screaming for beads from the New Orleans Saints-themed Bacchus krewe to cavorting about the French Quarter, residents and tourists soaked up the sun and enjoyed Mardi Gras 2017 on Sunday (Feb. 26). Our photographers were there to capture the good times.
Actor Jim Caviezel reigned as Bacchus 2017. Caviezel, best-known for portraying Jesus Christ in "The Passion of the Christ,'' wore the Bacchus crown and tossed doubloons and other goodies liberally to the crowds. The Bacchus parade honored the New Orleans Saints, and on one float, male krewe members dressed as the Saintsations.
Also spotted on a float was Saints superfan Jarrius Robertson.
The Krewe of Thoth had a cooking theme, and Chef Donald Link was celebrity grand marshal. The krewe was generous with throws, which included fedoras and plenty of medallion beads.
