After 100 years, the future is so bright for the Krewe of Iris that they need shades. The oldest all-female krewe in New Orleans will toss their signature throw, sunglasses decorated by members, when they roll Saturday (Feb. 25) at 11 a.m. Uptown.
The parade's theme is "100 Years of Iris" -- the krewe dates back to 1917. The grand marshal is Randi Rousseau of WDSU. Terrance Osborne created the krewe's 100th anniversary poster.
Besides the cute sunglasses, other throws to look for include plush pillows decorated with irises; stuffed animal bags; blue, purple and hot pink Iris bags; new resin flowers, delicate creations made out of ceramics; glitter face tattoo stickers; bracelets; light-up rings; anniversary tumblers; tutus; a "boppers and baseball helmet'' with an Iris flower headband and purple hard hat; and more.
