An annual Mardi Gras tradition dating to 1882, the meeting of the courts of Rex and Comus will once more be broadcast live from the 2017 Rex Ball this Fat Tuesday on WYES-Ch. 12 in New Orleans. This year marks the 21st year the local PBS affiliate will carry the meeting.

The program, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 28, will be streamed live online at WYES.org and via the station's YouTube channel. It will also be simulcast on LPB3 in Baton Rouge.

Originating from the Sheraton and Marriott Hotels in downtown New Orleans, the event coverage will be hosted by Peggy Scott Laborde along with Carnival historian Errol Laborde.

In addition to giving viewers a peek inside the white-tie affair -- which brings the annual Carnival season to a close -- WYES' coverage annually offers a look at key moments from the year's Mardi Gras celebration. In addition, viewers can expect a wealth of information about the history of Carnival in New Orleans, including prepared packages on the celebrations of 50 years ago and 100 years ago.

Coordinating producer for the production is Barbara Sillery, with Will Morrow directing and Larry Roussarie editing. Executive Producers are Peggy Scott Laborde and Jim Moriarty.
