The Krewe of Brid’s founding honors the Irish immigrants to New Orleans whose work building the New Basin Canal set the stage for the founding of the Lakeview neighborhood. The krewe is named in honor of the ancient Celtic Triple Goddess, Brid (pronounced “breed”): She is three sisters each named Brid.

Each year the krewe selects three local women to represent the Three Brids. This year’s Brids are:

Melanie Ehrlich, Brid of the Forge - Goddess of Strength & Justice Dr. Ehrlich is a professor of genetics, whose Tulane Medical School lab does research on muscular dystrophy and cancer. She is the founder of CHAT – Citizens’ Road Home Action Team.

Stephanie Bruno, Brid of the Spirit - Goddess of Arts & Letters Stephanie is a champion of New Orleans’ neighborhoods. She writes a weekly series in the Times-Picayune spotlighting the cultural and architectural features of our neighborhoods.

Laura LeBon, Brid of the Hearth - Goddess of Home & Hearth Laura is an Architect, owner of Urban Architecture in Mid City, and recently became a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist.

Krewe members will be dressed in construction worker outfits. Each krewe member uses her own creativity to customize her outfit to reflect her personality. Egg Yolk Jubilee Music Band will lead the march, along with Grand Marshall, District A Councilmember Susan Guidry. Perennial favorites, The McTeggart Irish Dancers of Louisiana, will also be joining us.

After the parade,  Brid’s fourth annual Party with the Goddesses, will be held at the The Bulldog starting at 9 p.m.  on the back patio.
