Chewbacchus, a new New Orleans Mardi Gras 2011 parade; video

The new New Orleans Mardi Gras parade organization titled the “Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus” kicked off its version of Carnival season with “Set your Phasers to Stunning,” a science fiction – flavored fashion show/costume contest at the Big Top Gallery, 1638 Clio St., on February 26.

Spokesman Ryan Ballard explained that the concept behind the parade is to blend the orbits of Chewbacca, the furry Star Wars sidekick, and Bacchus, the Roman god of wine.
