Folsom is the only parade present for residents in its namesake town. People who enter floats in the parade are eligible to win plaques within the top three entries each year, resident Amy Althans said.
The parade is dubbed as "an old-fashioned country Mardi Gras," and participants can ride everything, including 4-wheelers and horses. Althans said this year's king of Folsom will be David Pittman, chief of the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 5.
