The late actor Carrie Fisher, who died December 27, was best known for her role as the heroic Princess Leia in the Star Wars movie series. She had been scheduled to appear at Wizard World Comic Con New Orleans, which takes place from Friday (Jan. 6) to Sunday at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in downtown New Orleans.
The science fiction fan convention will mark Fisher's passing with a performance by a New Orleans tap dancing troupe called the Leijorettes on Saturday at 2:45 p.m.
The Leijorettes, who costume as Princess Leia, appear in the annual Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus Mardi Gras parade, a procession devoted to Star Wars. The group recently marched in a Dec. 30 memorial parade for Fisher that took place in the Bywater neighborhood.
After the Leijorettes' performance, actor Peter Mayhew, who played the role of Chewbacca in the Star Wars series beside Fisher, will ceremonially sign a banner dedicated to Fisher's memory at 3 p.m.
