The glittering, hand-decorated purses of Nyx are prized throws in and of themselves, but 10-year-old Duris Lee Holmes caught one when the parade rolled Wednesday (Feb. 22) with a little something extra. Exactly 100 somethings extra, to be exact.
Inside the bright green clutch covered in paw print decals that Holmes caught on the parade route was a $100 bill.
The Nyx rider "was adamant we get it when it fell," wrote the boy's father, Duris Holmes, in a Facebook post. "Couldn't figure out why until we read the note and saw the $100 bill in it."
The note had a suggestion as to how to spend the cash: "pay it forward."
"This was something I wanted to do for someone that catches this purse. If you catch it, please pay it forward," wrote the mystery Nyx rider. "Do something nice for someone else. Spread kindness always! Just be kind and be a good person & encourage others to be kind as well! Happy Mardi Gras!"
Duris Lee already has plans for the money, his father said, and it includes donations for missions through St. Dominic Church, a food drive or local hospital.
