The Krewe of Caesar, which rolls the largest Mardi Gras season parade in Jefferson Parish, decided last week to “cease operations” because of the increasing difficulty of funding a high-quality spectacle, the uncertainty over the Metairie parade route and other factors. Soon, however, it came out that Caesar was in talks to move its parade to Kenner.
Kenner hasn’t hosted a full-scale Carnival parade since 1992, when Silenus and Saturn left in part because City Hall wanted thousands of dollars for security and post-parade cleanup. But there’s a different set of elected officials in place now, and Mayor Ben Zahn said Tuesday (April 30) he’d “love to have” Caesar.
